stress

i don’t think it’s possible to overestimate the amount of stress that moving to the other side of the planet can cause. to start off with, we weren’t ready to move. we hadn’t packed all of our stuff in time to move. luckily our friends and family helped us out tremendously there. we had WAY too many bags to be traveling on a plane with, both checked and carry on. when we finally got to our final destination of Vienna after two slightly horrible flights, and a lay over that totally drained me, we had to pack all of our stuff into a single car, and Chels sat on my lap for the hour drive to our apartment.

needless to say, that night was very hard for us. Skye woke up around 1-2 in the morning, and it fully hit us that we had nobody, we were completely alone. the thing that made it very hard for me was the thought that, if something were to happen, we had no phone, we had no idea what our address was, we didn’t speak the language, and I didn’t even know the number for 9-1-1 (it’s 1-1-2, by the way).  it was a very disturbing place to be in. and to top it off, it was night time, and night time has become somewhat of a sensitive time for Chels and I recently.

I’m finally beginning to feel a bit better about the whole thing, but we still don’t have our proper phones (we got loaned a phone to use with one of our SIM cards), Skye still isn’t sleeping through the night without a 2-3 hour playtime starting around 11p, we still don’t have internet, so I can’t work from home, and must stop work around 5-6 so I don’t get eaten by the dogs that guard the Academy where I will be working from, and we still haven’t really Skyped with anybody which is making the loneliness even more palpable.

the food is just different enough that we know we are someplace else, it’s good, but different. the cheese is really good though. there is a type of cheese here that is so smokey it makes it taste like eating a campfire. that may not sound good, but trust me… it is. we also found some “american style” chocolate chip cookies that surprisingly are.

anywho…   more posts, videos, and stories to come. i have to go now, and take care of this little one who is insistent on getting into everything. at least some things don’t change…
