How I met my wife, part 5 — meeting my love

Recap: got in trouble, community service at Hansen Planetarium.

So I finished the portion of my community service that I could do at the planetarium (there was a rule that said you couldn’t do them all in one place, or something like that), and had a few hours left, so I helped out the Forest Service. A few months later, after I was done with that, I went back to the planetarium, and asked my boss there if I could have a job, and they agreed and hired me on the spot. So I was working at the planetarium, hanging out, and met a girl.

How I met my wife, part 4 — trouble

Recap: I had just found raves.

So, not long after my first rave (and I had been going to every single one every weekend since), around spring of ’95, I was at Confetti’s (which was open every Friday and Saturday nights, but Saturday nights were the raves, so we usually went to the club on Friday, discussed the logistics of the rave the next night, and then would pre-party at Confetti’s on Saturday until the rave started at midnight, which would make a large portion of the people at Confetti’s disappear, but back to the story…), and had met a couple of new people there, named Ben and Andy. They were both cousins, and we were talking, and hanging out, then I left for the rave as I usually did around midnight. Funny thing… I saw them at the rave, which made them even more likable. We began to hang out, and became very good friends, and they introduced me to several more people, namely Josh, and Angie.

How I met my wife, part 3 — finding PLUR

Previously on “How I met my wife”…

My friend Jose introduced me to techno music when I was about 15, and I’ve loved it ever since. I would listen to it everywhere, and had a huge set of headphones, and would often get strange looks during class. Now, don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t listening to it during every class, but I had an english class where our teacher would give us personal time for ~10 minutes a day, and I would spend my time listening to this new found techno music.

How I met my wife, part 2 — the space between

So in my previous post, I skipped a few years, and I’m going to go back and fill some details in for you.

When I was younger, like most young kids at the time, I was fascinated with space, astronomy (not astrology), space exploration, space pictures, and basically anything to do with space and/or science. My favorite subjects in school were math and science, later to become a degree in physics, and when I was in elementary, I desperately wanted to be an astronaut. But as I found out later, this was not uncommon. I was in the Young Astronauts club in elementary, tried a couple of times to compete in science fairs, was a member of the science club in jr. high, and was basically a science geek all through my school years.

How I met my wife, part 1 — Meeting my second love

So a few years ago, I was thinking about what transpired to make me the person I am today, and how things work to open your eyes to the people you meet, and eventually to the person who matters the most to you. I started thinking back to the events that led to me meeting my wife, and realized that it goes back quite a ways, and includes events in my life that I never would have imagined would lead to me meeting my wife.

This is the story of those events, and it’s a long one, so I’m breaking it up into several installments.

It begins in the first grade (I know, right? first grade!).
