sleep regressions

Skye as been starting to wake up once, sometimes twice, during the night. I knew it couldn’t be a coincidence that it started happening once she started crawling and trying to stand up. But this article basically says to me “Babies are in one big growth spurt and developmental milestone, so get used to sleep deprivation FOREVER!!:

Linking to specific moments in a YouTube video

A co-worker of mine pointed me towards this entry in a blog.

It talks about linking to a specific time in a YouTube video. I’ll repeat here in case you don’t want to link offsite.

Have you ever recieved links to videos that say something like “It gets really good around 1:47”, or something similar?

Now you can link to a specific moment in that video by putting the time as follows in your link: #t=1m47s

What this does, is when somebody goes to that link, it not only starts at the given time, but it doesn’t buffer all the stuff that comes before it, so you don’t have to wait for the part you’re interested in.

For instance, try the following link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OP1-5uxZffE#t=5m45s (SFW)

That’s just awesome.

big cottonwood late afternoon

My parents bought us a baby back pack as a gift when I was pregnant. I’ve been contemplating whether or not we should take this cumbersome item to Slovakia since we hadn’t used it yet because Skye wasn’t big enough. We tried it out today on a short outing up Big Cottonwood. I’m glad we did because 1) the leaves up there are still gorgeous and 2) it validated taking the pack overseas. It was a fun lil family outing.

How I met my wife, part 3 — finding PLUR

Previously on “How I met my wife”…

My friend Jose introduced me to techno music when I was about 15, and I’ve loved it ever since. I would listen to it everywhere, and had a huge set of headphones, and would often get strange looks during class. Now, don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t listening to it during every class, but I had an english class where our teacher would give us personal time for ~10 minutes a day, and I would spend my time listening to this new found techno music.

How I met my wife, part 2 — the space between

So in my previous post, I skipped a few years, and I’m going to go back and fill some details in for you.

When I was younger, like most young kids at the time, I was fascinated with space, astronomy (not astrology), space exploration, space pictures, and basically anything to do with space and/or science. My favorite subjects in school were math and science, later to become a degree in physics, and when I was in elementary, I desperately wanted to be an astronaut. But as I found out later, this was not uncommon. I was in the Young Astronauts club in elementary, tried a couple of times to compete in science fairs, was a member of the science club in jr. high, and was basically a science geek all through my school years.

pics of the berry

So Josh came over and hung out with us all day today, and Josh being ‘Captain Camera’ lately, had his camera with him, so he started snapping pics of my little cherub. I kindly asked if I could take some (ok, fine, I took the camera from him), and took some pictures myself. Here are the best from that set…

As you can see, I’m quite the fan of the close-up. Some people might call it “the angles”.  Whatever it is, I love it.

There is no post-processing on these, so they could probably look even better, but I couldn’t wait to post them, I think they’re pretty good the way they are.

…and I didn’t take the feetsie one, but it is pretty much what I had envisioned when I told Josh to take some pictures of her feet.

EDIT: sorry, these are too cute to hide behind a more tag :)

How I met my wife, part 1 — Meeting my second love

So a few years ago, I was thinking about what transpired to make me the person I am today, and how things work to open your eyes to the people you meet, and eventually to the person who matters the most to you. I started thinking back to the events that led to me meeting my wife, and realized that it goes back quite a ways, and includes events in my life that I never would have imagined would lead to me meeting my wife.

This is the story of those events, and it’s a long one, so I’m breaking it up into several installments.

It begins in the first grade (I know, right? first grade!).

the awesome power of air

So I was feeding Skye some apparently delicious yams, and was video taping it, because she was eating them like an actual person and loving it, all the while chatting it up like it was Sunday Brunch. I stopped taping for a moment, so I could turn her chair and get a better angle on her, started the camera up, she started talking, I gave her one bite, and then BAM!!

Video after the break.
